Now, this may seem weird or over the top of just plain WTFish, but it’s also a fascinating reaction piece.
In the middle of the evening, a young man goes into the kitchen to get some tea. He finds his mother there staring at a tomato cage . . . he’s seen it before and knows she’s not awake . . . she’s sleepwalking.
So, what does our responsible young man do to help his mom? Nothing. He grabs a video camera and records her antics.
First, here’s the sleepwalking episode . . .
Not to be outdone, after she’s had a good night’s rest and is genuinely awake, the son shows the recorded video to his mother and films her reaction.
Her reaction is absolutely brilliant. I’ve seen the same sort of flummoxed look on the faces of many folks who’ve been hypnotized to something and then had suggested amnesia so they wouldn’t remember it . . . then have the video shown to them and it’s amazing to them. Obviously, it’s not so funny when you’re dealing with trauma-induced amnesia but this stuff is pretty tame and context is important.
For the woman here, evidently her medication has increased the incidence of sleepwalking so she does need to watch out for that.
According to the work of John Kappas, the mother would be an excellent candidate for hypnosis . . . or, rather the sleepwalking and other elements would likely put her in the high responsive group. In my experience, folks who’ve had sleepwalking episodes are very often excellent trance partners and typically are experientially gifted.
