How Do I Listen to the Recorded Chats?
Many of the chat events at the COMMUNITY – http://trancesociety.net/community – are recorded and archived for folks who wish to listen to them later.
The SETchat events are free to all members to attend while the GOLDchats are open to Gold or Platinum members only. Most of the Room Trances are open to all members or to members of a specific group (which are typically open to all members) but the person guiding a Room Trance determines whether or not they wish to have it recorded or archived (typically not, although most of mine are recorded and then archived).
Not all of the chat events are recorded but those that are end up archived in the Community for those who wish to review the material or for those who miss an event or who had technical difficulties during the event to access.
I usually post to the wall or my blog if a recording has been made available but some folks are not sure how to get to those recordings.

The single major reason folks can't access the recordings or the chats or other resources is because they are not logged in. Most events are free . . . but . . . you still need to be a member of the Community in order to access them. So, when you go to a specific page or the main page at http://trancesociety.net/community you need to log in with your Community account. If you only want to access the free resources, just sign up for a free Standard membership . . . as I said, it's free.
Please keep in mind that when you sign up the system will not activate your account right away. It will send you an activation URL via email so make sure you use the right email address in your profile and make sure you check your spambuckets if you don't see the URL (seriously, it's amazing how many people sign up for an account and never activate it – periodically, the system deletes inactive accounts but it's still quite a few folks who don't follow simple guidelines). Otherwise you will need to contact me. If your account is not activated then you can't access any resources free or otherwise.
Assuming you have an active account then you have to log in to access the groups and recordings and chats and kool stuff.
Now, sometimes folks are logged in but they still get an error message when they try to access certain groups or areas . . . some groups and resources and abilities are restricted to Gold or Platinum members only. Most of the Community is free but there are some premium resources that require paid access (soapbox-rantbox aside . . . I've had a few nasty emails of late complaining about the pay for more access system but, those paid memberships and the special resources they have access to help defray the costs of all the free stuff so before anyone cries elitism, if you want the premium material then you have to pay the price – if no one pays then essentially the whole system collapses so if you don't want to pay then don't as there is already a lot for you in the free areas that you can be perfectly happy with but don't whine about what you aren't getting as you're getting quite a bit – if you don't want to miss out on the information provided in one of the free chat events then either don't miss the live event or pay for access to the recordings, simple).
In any case, when you log into your Community account you can then go the groups – either your "my joined groups" in your profile or just go to the Groups Home to find groups available to the public (there are some hidden private groups).
Actually, right at the moment of this posting – it may move later – the Secret Archvies group is one of the ones on the front page of the Community so when you click on the little house and scroll down you can see it. It's also at http://trancesociety.net/community/m/groups/view/Secret-Archives . . . that is the catch-all archive, a Gold or Platinum members group (all chat recordings go there for Gold members, a few of the recordings will also be in other group specific to the topic — for instance the NLP Presuppositions special event talk by Dr. Joseph "Deepak" Vidmar is housed in the Secret Archives but it is also in the AstroNLP group at http://trancesociety.net/community/m/groups/view/AstroNLP for members there to listen to — that standard members can access but the Secret Archives is the usual repository).
Yes, the SETchats are free to attend the live event but accessing the audio archive is typically a Gold members resource.
When you enter an appropriate group, you can select "join" so it's in your "joined groups" on your profile for easier access (this is a very good idea for any of the groups you wish to return to as it saves scrolling through a bunch of groups to get to the ones you want, it's also a very good idea to "subscribe" to groups you have more interest in so you get notified of group activity and can participate more fully).
Scroll down the group past the group "picture" and there are "sounds" and under the big sound player window are small boxes of different recordings. When you mouse over you will see the titles. Click the one you want and it will load into the player then you can click play and listen to it.
Most events on the Community are free to all members to attend while some resources are limited to Gold or Platinum members and other resources are limited to solely to Community administration (we do not have unlimited disk space so some things like uploading videos have to be limited so that you can access things like the free video course and more – of course, folks can post links to videos and the special Global Videos application allows you to embed videos from many different platforms).
There are plenty of resources here for the free standard member. If an event is one that you really wish to attend, the schedule is fairly regular. If you wish to have a bit more flexibility in terms of listening later either because you are unavailable at the live time or because you experience internet connection issues or whatever, honestly, the cost of a Gold membership is not really all that high (depending upon where you live, it's the cost of a couple cups of coffee or a porn magazine – less if you do an annual membership). However, we respect that a lot of folks live on budgets so we provide a LOT of free services and resources for folks as the Community is an online project of the Society of Experiential Trance so open-community is a very important part of our mission. Gold memberships are there in part to help defray some costs of keeping the site afloat and the doors open although the majority of the out of pocket support and resources for the site are provided by Brian David Phillips.
