Fujifim Finepix Real 3D W1 camera hands-on review

The folks from Stuff.tv have posted a video review of the Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D W1 stereodigitalcamera on youtube and on their main site . . .

No, it's not the most informative review and it's certainly not going to give enough for folks like myself who are already stereophoto aficianados, but it's an okay piece for the general public, albeit, I suspect the reviewer is a bit less enthusiastic than others.

The Real 3D W1 is released tomorrow (that's August 8) in Japan and in September in the US and UK (still don't know the actual release date in Taiwan yet . . . but looking forward to snapping one up soon).

As any reader of this blog knows . . . I am a stereophotographer so 3D photography is not a foreign thing to me as I absolutely love it (see the 3D photography category of the blog here and my 3D Stereoview-eXchange at where folks from all over the planet exchange their own original 3D photos in a variety of formats) . . . so, my drooling at the prospects of a new stereodigitalcamera should come as no shocker.  Heck, I've been dreaming and fantasizing about a mass produced puppy of this type for years and years (see my fantasy hacks here and here - yes, I hreally have been dremaing about this sort of thing for that long and in the interim have owned a number of the digital stereo hacks that have made a run for the gold but have fallen short, so far).

Those of us who are stereoscopicphiles are easy sells . . . we've been waiting a long time for something like this . . . and hopefully it'll be at least compatible with the community approaches we've already built up . . . however, it's the reaction of the regular folks that will really matter.  Back in the 1940's the Realist did not spawn a 3D photography craze by appealing to hobbyists like us, it became a best-selling system with many manufactuers producing their own systems in homage to its success because it made 3d photography simple and affordable for regular folks.  Hopefully, the Fuji system is pointed in the right direction on that score.  Or, it just crashes and burns like earlier attempts (I still have my 3D Optio).

All the best,
Brian
