More on Anti-Hypnosis Prejudicial Nonsense

Here’s a followup to this post https://briandavidphillips.net/2008/06/hypnotic-prejud.html . . . . . . as some of you know, I posted a bit about this on my regular blog and on my Hypnothoughts page http://www.hypnothoughts.com/profile/meiguolangren

It seems that producers of adult-oriented hypnosis materials are getting hit with a shocker and a half that will put some of them out of business and is threatening the business survival of others.

Clips4Sale is a content hosting and sales site where many folks who produce adult content host their content which is sold to customers. The hypnosis sites there have received notices that their material would no longer be hosted or sold through the site. Other adult material is fine, however, any material that combines hypnosis with erotic content is now gone.

CCBill is a credit card processing company that provides services to adult entertainment online stores so they can accept and bill via major credit cards. Since a quite a few credit card processors won’t accept allow adult material in their services (for instance, Paypal change their policies and no longer allows it), this is an important service. They have sent out notices to their customers to let them know that any sites that combine hypnosis with erotic content is no longer allowed (folks were given 48 hour notices while others were shut down immediately).

Evidently the move is coming from MasterCard which sent notices to companies letting them know they would no longer accept business from sites that have what they called "illegal content" which is what they are characterizing hypnosis+erotica.

It seems likely that the recent unrelated conviction of Paul Little (Max Hardcore) has spurred a bit of paranoia so I would guess that it is the sites that cater to rape fantasy and hypnosis (sites like Hypnotrick that appear to use hypnosis to rape women coming in for therapy but who are hypnotized into having sex without remembering it later – anyone with an inkling about hypnosis can easily tell it’s ACTING and has nothing to do with genuine hypnosis but the Hardcore case has spooked a lot of folks) that are most likely to blame for the policy change which is lumping all hypnosis as erotic entertainment in with the nonconsensual trick/drug/drunk/blackmail nonconsensual crowd . . . albeit, the emails the erotic hypnosis producers received specifically refer to hypnosis.

If it were just the hosting and processor services, then the folks who produce erotic hypnosis videos could just look for another provider who has a bit more sense about things and less prejudice toward hypnosis of any kind.

However, since it’s the credit card provider there’s little they can do. CCBill and Clips4Sale have adopted their own policies now parroting the MasterCard policy (evidently, the notice CCBill received from MasterCard specifically referred to erotic hypnosis as "illegal content" and listed a number of sites by name – although that list hasn’t surfaced so it’s everybody’s guess who has ruined it for everyone.

Interstingly, the better hypnofetish sites that have genuine hypnosis (not the roleplay porn that uses hypnosis as a mcguffin excuse to have women or men get naked and have sex) but the ones that rely on genuine hypnosis . . . have prehypnosis interviews at the beginning of the session where they clearly demonstrate that the models know and are consenting to the hypnosis and the adult content and a number of the sites have begun adopting posthypnosis interviews for the same to show that no untoward boundaries have been crossed. That’s a LOT more than most porn sites that are being considered perfectly acceptable have ever done.  Oddly, thanks to the Tampa conviction of Hardcore we’re moving into some very weird possible ramifacations for free speech (his case was moved there supposedly because his site was hosted by a secondary provider on a server there – without his knowledge – but really because prosecutors were looking for an easier community-standards conviction which would have been more difficult in Los Angeles where Hardcore’s company operates – go google the case for more information on this case).  Evidently, the Hardcore case has spooked some folks into a kneejerk reaction that assumes that not only nonconsensual sex based porn should be illegal (it should be illegal) but that the portrayal of nonconsensual sex fantasy by actors should also be illegal (it shouldn’t be) but that also pre-informed consensual hypnosis-based erotica should be considered inherently nonconsensual by its very virtue of involving hypnosis and should be illegal (which is just bizzarrobrainfreezeonuberWTF) . . . bearing in mind that whether or not the hypnofetish sites are hardcore, softcore, or just teasing seems to have no bearing on the characterization.

Now, before folks respond that it’s just porn and it’s creepy so who cares anyway (I care and I would disagree with that as I happen to think most adult entertainment is fine, but that’s me and I respect that there are folks uncomfortable with any sort of adult entertainment) . . . and if hypnosis and erotica aren’t your thing (that’s okay, FOR YOU . . . I tend to think sex=good hypnosis=good sex+hypnosis=reallygood but that’s me) . . . go to my hypnothoughts blog http://www.hypnothoughts.com/profile/meiguolangren on this and read the comments . . . it’s not just the hypnoporn sites that are being hit with unreasonable prejudice . . . look at the comment about local magazines (which we might write off as an aberration of one local’s prejudice) and then notice the one about Costco Credit Card Processing . . . no religious community objection, no porn or adult content of any kind, just rejection from the program because it’s a "hypnosis" business.

All the best,
Brian
