teenagers can beat blues with hypnosis

Well, it should be obvious but it’s nice to see their results fit reality . . . Teenagers ‘can beat blues with hypnosis’ . . .

Teenagers struggling with anxiety and depression can help beat the problems with self-hypnosis, a new study claims. Youngsters who were taught hypnotherapy also reported increased self-esteem and reduced feelings of hopelessness. The findings came after researchers compared the effects of hypnotherapy and traditional relaxation techniques on secondary school pupils. Ten teenagers identified personal goals and then were then taught by Hampshire Hypnotherapy Centre how to work towards them with hypnosis. Their progress was compared with the pupils who were taught conventional relaxation skills. While both methods cut anxiety, hypnotherapy had extra benefits. Educational psychologist David Byron, who conducted the study, said: ‘Hypnotherapy empowers the students to change their lives. It’s not me doing it, it’s them. I just show them how.’ Teachers noticed bigger changes in students using traditional techniques, but Mr Byron attributed this to hypnosis producing cognitive and emotional changes rather than physical ones. The results of the research were revealed at the British Psychological Society’s annual conference in Glasgow for its education and child psychology division.

Of course, one could ALSO use relaxation techniques ALONG WITH the hypnosis in order to have benefits of both. See my DRTRC and guided imagery audio programs on my webpages at http://www.BrianDavidPhillips.com for examples of that approach.

All the best,
Brian
