enPOTS goes byebye . . .
. . . news of the suckish variety

Nails driven into coffin, enPOTS: goodbye everybody. enPOTS closes down. This really does bite the big one. I enjoyed reading enPOTS and had even been considering contributing (I used to write quirkier bits for the local edition of PC Gamer and China Post and have lately been of a mind that I would like to once more inflict my alternaviews and notes upon a wider audience). It is sad to hear that the budget got yanked but given the lack of a business plan, it isn’t terribly shocking news, but it is certainly sad to see them go. I guess turning it into a commercial venture with a cover price wasn’t a viable option – certainly would lower the number of readers but one could grow it from there – then again, the size and scope wouldn’t justify becoming an independant entitiy like that (POTS is still publishing at a reduced scale, it’s just the English section that is being axed). There really aren’t any solid regular pieces serving the expat community with the kind of information or stories enPOTS provided. Of course, some alternawebpages could take up some of the slack but web-based communities aren’t the same as a print mass circulation piece of the scope enPOTS was and the community that was served.
