A Rude Awakening . . .
. . . one man’s negative experience with hypnotherapy

Simon Busch recounts his experience with hypnotherapy in A Rude Awakening and it is not a flattering or optimistic picture. While the progressive relaxation and imagery are commonly taught in many schools to hypnotists, the disaster of a session should not be misconstrued as an indication that all sessions are handled this way or even that his phycian scriptnotist (a hypnotist who works from scripts instead of properly learning processes) would be equally ineffective with others. I’m not sure what the image was geared to accomplish and probably would have gone with a differnet process had Busch been my client, but he wasn’t and so second-guessing would be inappropriate beyond noting that it is very important to ensure that the client understands the process, the state, and follows through and leaves with a positive impression of the process and feels that he or she has indeed made appropriate forward steps towards a solution.
