Repressing Data from Memory . . .
. . . he doesn’t want to worry . . .
. . . better options are available . . .

A visitor to Life of Brian is a bit on the worried side about a piece of news he learned some time ago about how men tend to die in accidents and by other causes to a much higher degree than women. This seems to really bother him as it makes women seem invulnerable and men destined to die. Evidently, from other comments posted, he worries that he too must die in a car accident. So, he asks if it would be worthwhile for him to use hypnosis to repress the memory of this data bit so it wouldn’t bother him any more.

Short answer, no, that would actually be a bad idea. See my other posts on just this sort of approach and why it doesn’t work and actually causes more harm than good.

Less short answer, there is no good reason to repress information like that. It’s just information. If you were to artificially repress it, you set up and energy system that must be vigilant against counter examples of the suggested reality. Really not a very efficient way to deal with things. Do a search on this blog for entries related to Memory and Artificial Repression. A much better approach to this sort of thing is to deal with why this bothers you. It is just a data bit and should not hamper your ability to function at all. Just because more men die in accidents it does not mean you are going to. If you really have issues with this information, then seek out competent help for in-person sessions to deal with your coping mechnism in so far as data bits is concerned. People have been dying for thousands and thousands of years and yet many many people continue to live happy, healthy, well adjusted lives. It is not the memory of being exposed to this information that is your problem . . . repressing that would merely setup other issues to deal with . . . it is coping with information that seems to be youre issue.

All the best,
Brian
