Hypnosis Journal . . .
. . . update . . .non-update . . . limbo for a while . . .

I’ve had a couple queries of late about the Journal of Hypnotic Arts and Sciences which I announced some time back as being an online peer-reviewed journal on hypnosis that I was starting up as founding editor and executive editor in cooperation with the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) for which I recruited the editorial board and oversaw the creation of the CFP and other matters. A number of folks have asked when the submissions are due and one person has even sent in a submission.

Sorry, but I am no longer associated with that journal. Due to what became very obvious personal differences of opinion regarding direction and editorial function, I am no longer associated with the journal. I will not post any particulars on a public forum other than to note that my version of things may not jibe with what has been posted in other forums but I do stand behind it and there are others who were a party to the discussion who will back me up so suffice it to say that I wish the journal well and hope things work out.

I did forward the one paper I have received to Dr. Damon of the NGH as I am not certain who is now in charge of the journal’s development.

Once I get things squared away, rest assured that I will begin a new journal for which the charter and editorial makeup are under my strict control so that the execution of the vision that I had when I founded the original journal would be clear and true to that vision as a formal forum for members of the entire hypnosis community (liscensed and unlicensed, amateur and professional, recreational and therapeutic) to share ideas, concepts, case studies, techniques and the like in an open yet peer reviewed process that encourages open sharing but also critical appraisal without political agenda or organizational politicking.

I am sorry that I had to step away from the NGH journal project as I did believe strongly in the original purpose and with the idea of peers from within the community sharing within a peer-reviewed process (by peer, it was originally intended that the editorial board consist of notable and highly respected members of the community . . . folks most members of the community would perceive to be knowledgeable and highly skilled and well respected and I do believe the original editorial board fulfilled those qualifications and then some). I wish the new journal editors all the best, whomever they might be (I don’t know as since I withdrew, I have not received any further information on the project’s progress). I wish them well.

All the best,
Brian

UPDATE: I have now resigned from the NGH and will have NOTHING to do with them.  The organization is no longer one I will associate with at any level.  Caveat emptor. – BDP
