There have been a number of old stories about hypnotist Alex Lenkei floating about the ol’ social media sites recently and with good reason, his is a good story worth repeating . . . correction, his are good stories worth repeating as he’s undergone several surgeries without the use of anesthetic – including an actual ankle replacement with a surgeon sawing through the one with no chemical anesthetic but hypnosis alone for the pain control.
Occasionally, someone will ask me if it’s true that hypnosis can help with pain control and I know there are some hypnotists out there who make some seemingly outlandish claims about the effectiveness of hypnotic pain control and a few who use stage gimmicks to make their work seem more astounding than what they actually do (I know of one very well regarded hypnosis trainer who uses rudimentary acting to pretend to be exerting pressure on subjects who do not sense any pain when he’s actually applying no pressure at all so of course his “hypnotized” subjects feel nothing) so there’s a lot of mixed signals out there . . . however, hypnosis can and will help with pain relief (James Esdaile showed that a century ago while performing amputations and major surgeries in India) . . . for contemporary proof . . . look no further than Alex Lenkei’s story for proof.
