This is really a rambling bit that has an impetus from a friend who asked how she could oversome some shyness for a rather special event so that she could leap in and enjoy some rather wonderful experiences in ways she would like to be comfortable with.
This led me to think about that a bit and my response on the first tier, without intending to seem facetious or the like, is that someone invented this kool new thing for stuff like that . . . hypnosis. While most folks might give parts therapy or regression to cause a go, there are some approaches that might be very appropriate and fun or playful (in keeping with the context of the original query).
Seriously though, folks in this situation might consider running some processes – simple ones if you don’t have someone there who you want running them for you – give yourself a go at 3D Mind (in trance first, at least I find I prefer it within that context) or even Six Step Reframe (once again, as a trance process).
For the fun, experiential process . . . go snarf thed "memory machine" mp3 off my webpage (in the free downloads section) and play with it. I changed it a lot since that old file but still works great for vicarious experience (the current version of the process is called the Vicarous Experiential Machine but no MP3s currently exist of that variation). Find yourself a video of someone behaving in the way you wish and ENJOYING THEMSELVES then run the memory machine trigger/process so that you FEEL AS IF the person in the video is YOU and fire off positive state anchors while experiencing it. For many folks that sort of an overload experiential process sets up some nice habit-forming response sets. With the right sort of video, it can also feel reallllllllly gooooood too. Even if it doesn’t rewire all the bits – and it tends to anyway – it can be a lot of fun.
I’ve used this process and variations with a LOT of folks for many different issues with great success and it can be a great boon with extra benefits for the experience. It’s also wonderful for recreational purposes.
By the way, for those with an interest . . . it looks like I may very well be teaching a short course on Experiential Hypnosis in Los Angeles (most likely in July). We’re still working on details but when things get setup, I will post the information here. Oh, there are more posts on experiential trance on my blog here.
