Men and women really do experience sexual desire and fantasy differently.
According to recent studies, women tend to experience responsive desire, that is they tend to experience sexual stimulation and desire after stimulation is initiated, they respond to desire contexts. While men tend to experience spontaneous desire, they create desire contexts and initiate response.
Other studies have found the old adage about men being visually stimulated while women are emotionally stimulated has some degree of truth as well.
However, other beliefs are false. For instance, rather than being generally less sexually centered, women are in fact very centered within their sexual fantasy worlds and many are ardent fantasy aficionados so to speak.
What do women fantasize about?
So what are the top five female sexual fantasies?
- Having sex with a stranger.
- Being worshipped in bed. (What the fuck does that even mean? I’m envisioning the Catholic shrine sex bedroom set from Blond Ambition.)
- Being ravaged in bed. (Are everyone’s fantasies informed by Jackie Collins?)
- Having sex in front of other people who are watching.
- Threesomes.
So they mostly revolve around being “the object of desire.” Here’s the thing, since fantasies are rooted in feelings, they can’t be incorrect, politically or otherwise. What turns you on turns you on, and while it might be worth exploring the reasons behind our predilection for being sex objects, it’s not worth condemning them.

Of course, as far as fantasy is concerned, men and women can experience their fantasies fully and experientially with no strings attached within the safety and security of their own minds.
