The S From Hell . . . when corporate logos cause phobic reactions and scare the bejeepers our of people

This may be a bit beyond creepy, but the old classic Screen Gems logo – with the “friendly” red letters on a yellow background and a “happy” moog synthesizer tone – used to frighten the willies out of some folks, enough to be uncommon but not rare and given the number of kids who watched Screen Gems television programs and cartoons that adds up to a pretty hefty number of folks who still today get the willies from the thing.

Director Rodney Ascher‘s documentary on the phenomenon, The S From Hell, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010. Here it is for you to wallow in the abject terror that is The S From Hell:

Wow, I can just imagine the fear that poor kid went through with his sister pinning him down and chanting “Screen Gems” over and over and over.

The Screen Gems logo and music is not the only bit of corporate branding gone wrong. The television series Unsolved Mysteries had a theme song that caused many a child a very sleepless night.
