Hypnosis can help students through exams

The Mayo Advertiser has a brief piece on how hypnosis can help students through exams:

“Many students who do not necessarily excel throughout the academic year suddenly seem to do well once it comes to exam time. At the same time, many exemplary students freeze when placed in an exam situation even though they would have no problem at all with the tasks set in a different environment. Exam success and confidence in preparing for exams can often seem to depend as much on your state of mind as on academic knowledge. Imagine if you approached every exam confident, focused, relaxed and with a clear mind. Imagine what you could achieve. Revision, essay deadlines, and general study pressure can all mount up to cause worry and stress – and then there are the exams themselves. Passing exams often seems to be as much about testing your temperament as your knowledge. Some people seem to be able to pass exams or remember all kinds of facts and figures without putting in a substantial amount of work and guess what? It is not because of the amount of brain cells they are carrying around in their head – it is just that they are able to use their mind in a relaxed, confident, and organised way in order to achieve exam success. A growing number of students are using hypnosis to help them perform at their best. It gives them a definite advantage, and in many cases can make the difference between success and failure in achieving the required points.”

Hypnosis can be helpful in eliminating exam stress but it can also help in boosting confidence and helping students with recall or memory.

I have presented a number of papers and workshops at academic conferences on this and related topics. There is quite a bit of solid evidence on the benefit of a number of trance techniques for educational purposes.

I have a number of free MP3s on my webpages at http://www.briandavidphillips.com in the DRTRC and Guided Imagery sections that work very well for students (many of the files were created and developed for my own university students over the years). Of course, we also have recordings available for purchase that many have found very helpful.

All the best,
Brian
