There is a nice piece that appeared in the Scientific American magazine (http://www.scientificamerican.com) that explores the Orgasmic Mind, or the Neurological Roots of Sexual Pleasure, at http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=the-orgasmic-mind that is well worth the read. It’s a bit dated now but much of it still applies and certainly should be of interest to anyone with involved with or curious about Eroticatrance (http://www.eroticatrance.com) and the like.
Seriously, any hypnotist should recognize the importance of the hidden meaning within the article’s tag line alone:
“Achieving sexual climax requires a complex conspiracy of sensory and psychological signals—and the eventual silencing of critical brain areas.”
Now go on over to the webpages for the Society of Experiential Trance (http://www.trancesociety.org) and re-read the definition of experiential hypnosis and think about that statement again. Yep, pure and simple.
Of particular interest in the article is the section of the article dealing with the experience of orgasm and the use of placebo.
First, here’s a description of one woman’s experience with a new treatment for lack of sexual response and how through the use of the drug she was able to experience sexual pleasure and more:
“She did not often have such strong emotions. But she suddenly felt powerless against her passion and the desire to throw herself into the arms of the cousin whom she saw at a family funeral. “It can only be because of that patch,” said Marianne, a participant in a multinational trial of a testosterone patch designed to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder, in which a woman is devoid of libido. Testosterone, a hormone ordinarily produced by the ovaries, is linked to female sexual function, and the women in this 2005 study had undergone operations to remove their ovaries.”
That’s the setup but note that the treatment is very successful . . . and that Marianne begins experiencing powerful sexual desire and sensations again:
“After 12 weeks of the trial, Marianne had felt her sexual desire return. Touching herself unleashed erotic sensations and vivid sexual fantasies. Eventually she could make love to her husband again and experienced an orgasm for the first time in almost three years.”
Now, here’s the kicker:
“But that improvement was not because of testosterone, it turned out. Marianne was among the half of the women who had received a placebo patch—with no testosterone in it at all.”
Yep. Suggestion alone is all that is required . . . of course, those of us who have worked with the clinical and therapeutic application of Eroticatrance processes are already well aware of this and have used hypnosis and related modalities to help many people – women and men – with sexual desire issues of this type as well as to teach couples and others use erotic trance recreationally to enhance their relationship pleasure and intimacy at the physical as well as emotional level.
