Is Online Hypnosis just Roleplay?

In one of the erotic hypnosis groups I belong to on Fetlife (there are a lot of interesting groups there), a very interesting discussion has evolved out of a query by someone who asks if online trancing is real or just roleplay as she had tried it before and only felt silly and that was about it.

I started the online erotic hypnosis group there so I have an obvious bias . . . but . . . here’s my answer as others have asked similar questions.

First, as to the answer of the query in the title of this thread . . . is online hypnosis roleplay or the real thing? Both. There are folks who do genuine hypnosis that way in a number of ways and there are folks who just pretend that they are doing hypnosis . . . sometimes folks who only want to do one or the other get mixed in with those who are on the other camp and they can find one another rather more than a whole lot annoying. 🙂

Now as to the rest . . . it’s actually a bit more complicated.

Online hypnosis can be as genuine as in-person hypnosis . . . but, keep in mind that some folks have as weak an experience when they’ve volunteered for a show as you describe your own hypnosis experience was. The stage hypnotist typically dismisses them not because they can’t be hypnotized but because there’s really no time to work with the person one-on-one in that context. Some hypnotists are very good and some have limited tools in their toolbox. Hypnosis is both an attribute and a skillset. Some folks are genuinely naturally more gifted at going into experiential trance quickly regardless of the skill of the hypnotist, they are just naturally gifted. Others need some practice to experience things. Some people are Michael Jordan’s of trance while others need some practice . . . however, just as we can all learn pick up a basketball, we can all enter hypnosis . . . some of us have some skills to practice first before we can start performing to the level of those Michael Jordan’s . . . . concentrating, focusing, becoming imaginatively involved . . . these are things that the hypnotist can help you with but YOU have to do your part. The hypnotist does not hypnotize you per se but rather guides you but for the hypnotist’s guidance to do you any good you need to focus and intensify your imaginative involvement and experience the steps as the hypnotist presents them. Most hypnotists can work the trance partner – hypnotist feedback loop to help you experience things more fully but some are a bit more skilled at it than others and some trance partners are a bit quicker on the uptake than others.

I’ve done text-only hypnosis that resulted in full-on orgasms with a first-time hypnotee so I know it works but I’ve also had to take a lot of time with someone else who’s “attempted” hypnosis a number of times with no effect.

In my opinion, of course.

All the best,
Brian
