Nintendo 3DS with 3D Photography and More

3ds

So, it looks like Nintendo's new 3DS does indeed have the magickal twin lenses of a true stereoscopic 3D camera built into the game system.  Sure, the resolution's pretty crappy – pretty much just a toy – but then it is a handheld game system and intended for playful curious fun and not serious 3D stereophotography.

Given the number of DS players out there, this could be a nice introduction to stereophotography to at least a part of the masses.

This is good news, especially given that Microsoft has backtracked big time on bringing out a 3D platform system for the X-Box, citing costs as being too high, and Sony has downsized their own 3D games publishing for the PS3 as they've had to lower the resolution on their 3D games since the hard ware – as massively powerful as it is – just isn't up to speed yet.  Note, I said "yet" as it is an inevitability.

In any case, I'm happy to see that the 3DS is coming into play . . . not sure if I would get one as I've already got a 3D digital camera (yes, I'm an early adopter of the Fujifilm Real 3D W1) and I have no reason to downgrade my capabilities on that end and I don't really need a handheld game system (isn't that what my cellphone and ipod touch are for?).  Now, when the platform games come out . . . then we're talking.

All the best,
Brian
