Food insecurity is on the rise in the US, big time. Before the recession, a record number of household could not afford adequate food for their families and many of those households had at least one person working full time . . . yes, they were working but still could not afford enough food for their tables. Since the recession, the numbers have risen even more dramatically . . . forty-nine million people did not have consistent access to adequate food in 2008 and that's thirteen million more than the previous year and keep in mind those are US government numbers which often deflate problems like this. The numbers in 2009 are likely to be even higher. See http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/18/opinion/18wed2.html for more on this.
All the best,
Brian
