Carrefour Rodent

Lorraine and I were at the Carrefour in Shijr yesterday and I saw a bigass rat on one of the produce bins.  I showed Lorraine and admit that I smiled at her yelp.  We told no fewer than three Carrefour employees we when and where we saw the rodent, including one who evidently was a manager of some type . . . one did nothing, nothing, not a peep or even the slightest clue that she intended to move from her station a few feet from the rodent or that she would be deigning to notify anyone who would be in a position to kill the damned thing, nothing, nada, zilch; one made a half hearted attempt to pick up a few of the oranges and put them in a bag evidently for disposal but only after I made a rude comment about hoping they weren't planning to continue to sell the rodent fruit to people but after we turned the corner he put the bad down and wandered off; and the managerish type (we are assuming as his jacket was a different color from other folks in the area) apologized to us for having seen the rat and kept on walking.  We like that Carrefour (seriously, we like it a lot) and so we certainly hope that they develop a more prompt approach to rodent control . . . I know, it's Taiwan, but there still are some health code regulations that one really needs to follow.  Of course, I would assume that management would be more aggressive about responding to this sort of thing, especially since the corporation itself has already recently lost a false advertising appeal in Taiwan.

Of course, just seeing a rat in the grocery section of a store like this is nothing compared to the time we were in a movie theatre and a couple rats walked across my feet . . . upon telling the manager that his theatre was infested with rats, he suggested that I should lift my feet up so the rats wouldn't walk on them.

Ah, the joys of living abroad!

 All the best,
 Brian
