Real 3D W1 World’s “First” still digital camera? No, but it’s still important.

According to Marke Andrews of the Vancouver Sun, the Fuji Real 3D W1 will hit the stores on Oct. 1.  I wonder if this a pushback from the original September release dates previously given for US, UK, Europe, Australia and elsewhere as that's the only place that's given a date (Fuji's been silent so far).  It was released last month in Japan.  I've no idea when it's due in Taiwan (which is where I will be buying it as soon as I can).

One problem with the story by Andrews is that he is billing the Real 3D W1 as the world's first still camera.  Uh, sorry, but most early cameras were stereographic and even mass produced stereocameras have been around a long time.  Heck, this isn't even the world's first mass produced 3D camera as I own a Pentax Optio 3D (a single lens chacha system which failed).  It isn't the first stereodigital camera as small production houses have been putting them out.  It is however the first mass produced stereodigital camera consisting of two lenses, which really is how a digital 3D camera should be produced.
