Past Life Hypnosis takes Longer? . . . the “deeper” hypnosis myth

Dawn Aulet writes of her experience with hypnosis and specifically a past life regression in her feature for the Herald News (http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/heraldnews/lifestyles/1654928,Past-life-regression-JO070709.article) on Linda Herrick's hypnosis work.

Over all, the story is interesting and engaging.  However, Aulet does promote a few myths about hypnosis and past life regressions in particular.

For one thing, this statement rings out:

"Past-life regression sessions take longer than traditional hypnotherapy
sessions because you have to be in a deeper state of hypnosis."

Uh, no.  Past life regression sessions . . . at least the way I teach it . . . do NOT take longer than other sessions.  They don't require "deeper" hypnosis, they merely require hypnosis.  Somnambulism or experiential hypnosis does not take a longer amount of time to reach, it merely takes a competent hypnotist who knows the signs of hypnosis and how to guide a person into the state.  Each person is different, the length of the induction is not the key to whether or not one achieves hypnosis, the skill of the operator and the aptitude and skill of the trance partner is much more important.

All the best,
Brian
