Continuing in our series of questions and answers related to topics of hypnosis, here's my response to a query via the Hypnosis Technique Exchange at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypnosisTechniqueExchange.
Inducing regular relaxation has a powerful effect upon blood pressure. Stress reduction – rather, teaching a person to deal with stress – is very important as well.
As to imagery, just do what you're asking for and create an imaginative link between the blood pressure and the trance state.
There are very old copies of the Esparza Collection of scripts on my webpages at http://www.briandavidphillips.com in the resources section. The snippet on High Blood Pressure has a bit of what you're after:
You could also do things along the lines of an inner journey, riding a miniature sub through the arteries and construction crews clearing the path. You could have the person imagine a large red balloon representing the blood pressure and for them to breathe in to feel positive energy and as they breathe out they bring the balloon down (or floating) representing good pressure or lack of tension or whatever. Creating a dial that turns the pressure up and then back down works as well, similar to what we might do with pain control dials (now that you know you can turn it up, turn it back down and lower now). Last weekend I did an abundance workshop and suggested folks create their own metaphors . . . same principles apply here . . . anything from stroking the cuddly kitten of relaxation, it's purrs relaxing us even further and the soft fur bringing the blood pressure down, to being liked in the face by the happy helpful dragon of healthy bloodpressure, each lick bringing the blood pressure down, down, deeper down . . . but watch out for it's breath, it tickles and smells of vanilla. Just take any of those ideas and play with 'em and imagine what sort of device would you imagine you could creatively connect directly to the blood pressure.
Dealing with underlying causation is a very good idea as well. While fancy shmancy scripts with pretty imagery are all well and good. Processes that deal with it and the causes straight on are going to be very very helpful. Parts Therapy, Abbreviated Core Transformation, and the like.
You might consider taking a look at the Healing Rhythms package at http://www.wilddivine.com as well. I do not have one of those puppies but the active principle is very sound. The appropriate persons know that my birthday is right around the corner so http://www.wilddivine.com/servlet/-strse-69/Super-OEM-Bundle-Pack/Detail might seem an interesting choice for presents.
Folks in Taiwan who would like to work with these issues, can see my webpages at http://www.briandavidphillips.com to set up an appointment.
I hope this has been helpful.
All the best,
Brian
