For those of you who are looking for a certification option with an open
inclusive community of hypnotists, the SOCIETY OF EXPERIENTIAL TRANCE has
expanded over the past year and we have built an instructorship core of
individuals who shine in their respective specialties and who represent a
very diverse and exciting spectrum of hypnotists.
The SET is an inclusive
open community of hypnotists with representatives from every corner of the
hypnosis community. While other societies or organizations tend to focus on
one or two areas of hypnotists, the SET endeavors to bring folks from as
many hypnotic walks as possible together, sharing their views, ideas, and
techniques. Hypnotherapists learning and sharing with entertainers and
hobbyists. Rather than having a basic membership at the hypnotherapist
level, the SET’s basic membership is competence as Hypnotist with a number
of specializations available beyond that, recognizing that hypnotherapy is
indeed a backbone of the hypnosis community, many folks are interested in
other applications, including stage and even recreational contexts which is
why a variety of specializations beyond Hypnotist are available within the
Society’s training framework, to best suit the specific needs of the
membership.
Certification in the SET is based upon competence demonstration. There are
no written examinations. Rather instructors vette folks during live
demonstrations of competence in particular skillsets related to
specializations.
Previously certified or trained hypnotists will find that
cross-certification is encouraged by the SET as diversity in training and
experience and community is a goal for the Society. Previously experienced
folks wishing to join need not take yet another training – although some
instructors do occassionally offer intensive review courses intended for
previously trained individuals. Those who are already competent in the
required skills can opt out of coursework and become certified through live
examination or even via video submissions of demonstrations of competence.
Distance learning opportunities are also available in some subjects.

Instructors represent diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences are in
a variety of locations throughout the world and as most instructors travel
or offer distance certification options, opportunities are never further

Members of the Hypnosis Technique Exchange yahoogroup will notice that the
charter of inclusiveness and open community with a diverse and extremely
mixed caring and supportive mindset of sharing and co-support of the Society
of Experiential Trance is very resonant with the Exchange charter.
Obviously, this is no accident as the the online community and the Society
share a common inspiration. The Exchange is an open-resource online
community for the Society and the Society is a real-world extention of the
Exchange, while membership in the one has never been a requirement for
membership in the other.
