I’ve posted about hypnosis as an aid to pain-free childbirth a number of times. Here’s another story about hypnosis birth mum in pain free labour. Women do NOT have to suffer through a painful delivery when having children.
A 40-year-old East Budleigh mum-to-be turned to hypnotherapy when it came to giving birth to her first child. Dawn Robinson, now 42, said natal hypnotherapy helped control her pain levels when she gave birth to her daughter, Alice. Mrs Robinson learned about the natural method after reading an article written by clinical hypnotherapist Maggie Howell. Getting hold of a CD, Mrs Robinson listened to the recording some 25 times before the big day arrived. When she gave birth at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital her labour lasted three-and-a-half hours and was relatively pain free. Mrs Robinson, who apart for gas and air did not use drugs during labour, said: "I was totally unaware of what was going on around me.
The Curse of Eve is one that women have been passing on for generations with mothers and friends reinforcing the idea of pain being required for delivery when it’s just not the case. Sure, there’s some discomfort when a human being passes through your vagina, but that’s not the same as pain. My wife experienced that discomfort when we had our child, but it wasn’t the searing pain that nurses, doctors, family, and friends happily predicted.
The birth of your child should be the most joyous of your life, don’t let it get clouded with needless pain.
