I know it’s not really hypnosis . . . but it definitely has a great deal to do with how the mind can be subject to suggestion, influence, and odd thinking passing from one person to another as an infection, a mind virus . . . (web) . . . has some interesting examples but it actually isn’t particularly comprehensive.  I have been familiar with all the examples given for years (most of them have been researched by my graduate students for various courses at the university at various times over the past decade or so) and the really weird thing is that such cases are still occurring – for instance the disease from a couple years ago that passed around junior high schools based upon a fictional illness from a television show or other oddness that continues.  Reality is very fluid.
