We had a wonderful time at last night’s Comedy HYPNOSIS Show.

The Saturday crowd was very different from the Friday (both nights were full houses).  This show was with interpretation and so the sensibilities, pacing, and material is often very very different from the English only one.  Lorraine and I develop a rhythm for the show and it goes from there.  I don’t mean the show is any less than the monolingual one as it is a LOT of fun and folks in the audience were once again treated to a laugh-filled evening, but that the timbre is different.  Having the opportunity to do shows monolingual and bilingual is a blessing for me as I have had to learn to adapt to very different circumstances and play with it.

This time we had some rambunctious folks who seem to have already started drinking well before they came to the club but once we dealt with them and the hypnotic effects started, they settled down and joined in with everyone else in the amazement of the responses. The "happy finger" and "lost name" guys were wonderful subjects and when I did the "psychic" bit it worked beautifully.

It is interesting that in all the shows I’ve done in Taiwan, I have had disruptive drunks twice and only twice and they have always been drunk waiguoren.  We had one show with some enthusiastic Taiwanese drunks but they didn’t heckle, rather, quite the opposite, they were very eager to participate (and turned out to be amazing subjects in and of themselves).

We have scheduled two more shows at the Live Comedy Club for Dec. (a Fri. night that will be the full-on ADULT show in English and a Sat. night bilingual Chinese-English show). We scheduled the dates with the club but are going to see about changing them so Aaron can come again (he leaves for Thailand this Monday but hopefully can swing by again on his way back to the US). We’ll post the full details when we have the date finalized.
