Well . . . it’s New Year’s Eve . . . so let’s enjoy it with a hypnosis show!
One wonderful market for stage hypnotists is special events for schools – university, college, junior college, high school, and even junior high schools in some contexts. For a number of years, the senior graduation party for Libertyville High School in Libertyville, Illinois, has invited a stage hypnotist to perform. The kids get a kick out of the experience and it’s a worthwhile event in and of itself.

Notice how the hypnotist paces the volunteers and the crowd. He also adapts his presentation to the group. There are a few bits that are fairly common which I would not do with high school kids (the pinch on the girls’ butts – blamed on a teacher is acting as an assistant so it becomes funny for the audience) and a few I would not do with any group (the airplane ride and killing Bambi’s Mom) but despite my reservations, the hypnotist does them fluidly and engages the group so well that they work very well. Notice how he handles the "five year old" bit – "it’s not YOU as a five-year-old but the ideal five-year-old" which clears up any problems with the bit. There are other ways to do this as well.
All in all, a worthwhile show.
