A hypnotist here in Taiwan has made it to national news because of his unusual but expensive practice. Basically, he advertises on the internet that he will help folks remove curses from their past lives so that they can begin living a lucky and happy life today. In order to avail yourself of his services, you need to give him your birth date . . . yes, I know, it sounds more like astrology than hypnosis and I’m not sure what system of astrology hooks past lives into current birthdates. I’m not even sure if he actually sees clients as the business seems to be internet based. The fee for his services? NT$25,000 . . . that’s about US$764. Am I perhaps practicing the wrong sort of hypnosis? Nope, I am not. However, as always, I am very skeptical of folks who feed religious or superstitious fears into the area of “hypnosis” as a means to play those fears into lucrative money-making schemes. Hypnosis is not inherently superstition and magick and magick is not inherently gullible nonsense . . . but, there certainly is a lot of nonsense out there masquerading as hypnosis.
