V . . . kicks

Lorraine and I went to see V for Vendetta today . . . it kicks, big time. It is very very very well done. When I first saw the previews, I thought it was just going to be Zorro with Guns . . . but it isn’t. It is so much much more than that. It is a masterpiece.

While it is set in the UK and predicts an American Empire fallen into disarray and chaos (a prediction that has a lot of meat with the teeth), it is less a fable of the UK’s fall into facism – so many parallels with Hitler and his browncoats – as it is an exploration of America’s current political and social enviornment. The conservative Christian cum facist leader of V’s government is less Tony Blair than George W. Bush.

The elements of power and knowledge and spin were very well done, shades of Foucault . . . I enjoyed that but then I enjoyed the entire film.

Consider this one highly reccommended on this end.
