Hypnotic Talismans . . .

A bit of discussion on the nature of belief and the use of magickal talismans, amulets, and sigils and the like on one of my discussion lists. One fellow wrote about how amulets and talismans have real power to which another fellow made a very reasonable response that such devices are simply anchors (a neurolinguistic programming term for a type of conditioned response trigger type process set).

Agreed, however, folks who are familiar with the workshop I conducted on HYPNOTIC TALISMANS (approaches to energizing (anchoring) objects with state resources) know that it can be loads of fun to use trance processes to purposefully create amulets and talismans hypnotically and imbue them with a power. For instance, some folks use the "red pencil" suggestion for a reinduction trigger. Or others use rings or medallions to create associated anchors for certain qualities or to remind them of those qualities. These can be created either accidentally or naturally (the lucky socks superstitions and the like) or they can be created as an act of will. As a hypnotic process they can be fun . . . from the stage hypnotist’s "invisibility cloak" to a "ring of commitment and love" hypnotic anchor or "spell" placed on a wedding band or the "dildo of desire" for those with such a yearning. Of course, the thing is to realize that one can do the same thing with even more power without the use of a physical object. I would approach amulets as a playful imaginative game but would strongly suggest that the best amulet, talisman, or spell resides within one’s mind, everything else is superfluous.

We will be exploring similar processes in the upcoming seminar on Practical Approaches to Metaphysical Hypnosis as well.

All the best,
Brian
