Dave Elman Induction Modified for Groups

In a discussion at Hypno-Sex which continues in the Hypnosis Technique Exchange:

Since the Dave Elman Induction is back as a topic, this is a good time to broaden the question. Has anyone adapted the Elman Induction for groups or for a stage show?

Yep, been there, done that . . . a LOT. 🙂

What is the best way of checking on the amnesia of numbers since the subjects can’t all speak?

I posted a breakdown on converting the Elman to groups which you can read:

Once you’ve read those, then post comments and specific questions as to approach or adaptation.

It really is very straightforward.

How does it rank as compared with other ways of putting a group under, in terms of effectiveness, and being interesting to watch?

It is very effective and very reliable.

Like the classic Elman, the Elman adapted to groups works very well. It only takes a couple minutes and then you’re off and running.

When I run it, I do some adaptations which add in a bit more interactivity and physical effects while the induction is running (switch the arm catalepsy process and the like) which increases the convincer effect for the subjects and makes it a bit more entertaining for the audience.

However, even if you run classic Elman for groups (which is what is discussed in the pages listed above), it can be fast enough that the audience still reads it as testing and prep and then you move directly into more physical effects right away.

With a stage show, you don’t need a long induction (the group Elman should run three to four minutes but should never take you more than six). You should be able to vette your committee quickly enough and reliably enough that any rapid or instant induction will work. The guys who do thirty minute inductions (and I’ve seen a forty-five minute induction for a ninety minute performance) are just not confident enough in what they’re doing.

Thanks.

Give it a go and then let us know how it works for you.

All the best,
Brian
