Hypnosleep . . .
. . . how to hypnotize a sleeping person . . .

Received a query on how to hypnotize a sleeping person:

Is there a way to induce triggers during sleep periods for my wife, should I be awake to list the triggers to her?

I am assuming this is a consensual process which your wife has requested.

Yes. The easiest way to do this is to create hypnosleep pattern. First induce somnambulism and test for it. If you can, as I have not produced a product on this . . . yest . . . get ahold of Gerry Kein’s excellent hypnosleep training video http://www.omnihypnosis.com as it is right on the money and simple to use.

Does it work? Yes, it is very very effective and is one of the most powerful techniques a focused tranceworker can employ. Don’t use it lightly and don’t assume you have carte blanche ith a person’s psyche. The classic hidden obersver is still there protecting the person from unwanted suggestions, albeit there is much more leeway as to suggestion acceptance.

There is an excellent breakdown of Dave Elman’s hypnosleep process (the same one Gerry Kein teaches) at http://www.durbinhypnosis.com/elman.htm which will also give you a strong headstart. If you can get Elman’s book, do it.

You will note that I base part of my vicarious experiential memory machine and tranceplay hypnotic holonovel processes on this protocol.

I do caution you that hypnosleep as Elman taught it is very very powerful and must be used with great responsibility. I would stronly suggest folks not use it unless they’re very experienced with other forms of hypnosis or trance modalities first. I have found it to be very very effective.

If you have preconditioned her to trance triggers, then just make a cd and play it while she sleeps (then you can sleep too). However, there are better ways to approach this issue.

I saw a story long ago that referenced a book intended for parents that advocated a similar sort of taliking to kids while they sleep to implant "morals" and "good study habits" but it didn’t have a reference to the original book and I’ve since lost even the article (which is too bad as I would really like to see that book – I am interested in alternative takes to hypnosleep or even waking suggestion). I am cross-posting this to the Waking Dreams Hypnosis and Focused Trancework Technique Exchange to see if anyone there has more to add (if anyone knows what this book was or of similar books, please POST the info).

As to working with issues therapeutically, I would suggest an easier way to do this would be to do a full-on session to deal with the underlying causes and issues related to the presenting symptom (this is particularly true if you’re talking about more than a few pounds for weight loss or other more serious issues). In this instance, it might be appropriate for someone else – a qualified competent hypnotist – to run the session rather than you. This way there would be no holding back if there are relationship issues triggering the problems (not that there are).

As you asked about triggers, you can set them up in a regular session and then have them fire during the hypnosleep or just compound suggestions (hypnosleep works on a window of suggestibility so short bursts are more effective then long relaxation or suggestion patters).

More hypnosleep stuff . . .

Some time ago, the NGH members forum had a discussion on hypnosleep as well http://www.ngh.net/MemberForums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1555

You can also find it described in Wendi Friesen’s book Hypnotize Your Lover at http://www.hypnotizeyourlover.com/html/contents_of_book.html also see the testimonial description at http://www.hypnotizeyourlover.com/html/testimonials.html (note: I wrote a chapter for this book).

There’s also a strange combination page at http://www.erotic-hypnosis.org/hypnosleep.htm which might give you some ideas (although I would suggest the Durbin and Omni sources are stronger).

I hope this has been helpful to you.

All the best,
Brian
