Hypnotic Sports Success . . . Virginia Tech Volleyball

Bob Reese, assistant professor of psychology at Jefferson College of Health Sciences and a doctoral student at Virginia Tech is working with the Tech Volleyball team as part of a study on visualization and sports improvement . . . Tech volleyball finds advantages in ways it never imagined.

A number of studies have shown positively that visualization and hypnosis can improve sports ability and increase levels of skill improvement.

It seems that there are some particular issues with the Tech experiment as normally a more uniform improvement would be seen.

The bit with the paperclips on the string may read like some sort of psychic power demonstration, but it is not. It is simple ideomotor action – movements of muscle groups by the subconscious mind outside of conscious awareness. Evidently, the article author didn’t get that point of the exercise.

I’ve worked with folks for similar issues as have a number of folks doing this sort of work in Taiwan. If you are looking to improve sports or other skills through hypnosis or visualization, feel free to contact me.
