Journal of Hypnotic Arts and Sciences

For those who aren’t already aware of this . . .

I’m looking for an academic, peer-reviewed, professional journal on the topic of hypnosis and practice thereof and currently the only one I can find is the "American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis" (AJCH). Are there any other professional publications available in addition to the APA and Erickson Foundation documents that I could use in preparing my thesis?

This won’t help you in your quest for academic resource materials right now but it will help you later when you wish to publish portions of your dissertation as research articles or to go further.

I am the Editor in Chief (Executive Editor) of a new peer reveiewed hypnosis journal, the Journal of Hypnotic Arts and Sciences (An International Multi-Discipline Peer-Reviewed Journal of Hypnosis, Trance, and Changework Theory and Practice for Therapy, Education, Entertainment, and Recreation). This is an online journal being co-published with the National Guild of Hypnotists intended to serve the "lay" hypnosis community by providing a forum for critical and peer-reviewed material of a wide variety of subjects of interest to the community. We are currently in the organizational stage.

If you – or anyone – would like to submit a review, paper, or other writing, then feel free to send the piece directly to me at phillips@nccu.edu.tw and as soon as we have finalized our editorial board staffing, I will forward the piece to editors for blind review (I remove all identifying features of submissions are removed when they are sent to members of the reveiw board). When the details of the webpage for the journal are finalized, we will announce an address and send out formal Call for Paper announcements.

Members and non-members of the NGH are welcome to submit.

(I’m attempting to "tie the ribbons" on a hypnosis dissertation for my degree, and then, after a successful defense, I hope to present it at the next NGH conference in Boston. I can dream big.)

Might I suggest that you stop "attempting" and "hoping" and just "do" it. Remember one of the key presuppositions of successful suggestion as taught by the Grand Master Hypnosis Teacher of All Time and All Galaxies, Yoda, "There is no ‘try,’ there is only ‘do.’"

All the best,
Brian

NOTE:  I have resigned from the NGH and am no longer associated with them or their activities in any way.  I left the journal some time ago as there were very real and very nasty conflicts between me and the NGH liason on matters that made it very clear I could not remain and keep the project alive.  Yes, even though it was my baby, I left given the alternatives were very negative.  As far as I know, they do still wish to continue with the project but I am unaware of any positive work towards it.  If you are interested in the NGH, don’t ask me . . . I only have negative things to say.
