Ten Lines Found

Ten Lines Found refers to a almost-found poetry exercise in which the poet looks at a painting or photograph and quickly writes a ten-line response within five minutes. It is akin to flash poetry.

My literature students participate in the activity by way of first examining some poems inspired by great works of art. Then they select a painting to respond to on their own.

This category, Poetry : Ten Lines Found is intended to showcase my own occassional ramblings and thoseof my students . . . or others who happen to fly by this blog who wish to give the form a go. Just email me a URL or a copy of the image with your Ten Lines Found and I’d be more than happy to post it here. Please give full credit to the artist with name and title of the work.

Feel free to leave comments on particular entries – although scathing flames will be deleted with the poster banned – after all, one man’s art may be another man’s Vogon Poetry and many of the posters will be raw beginners who need positive criticism (so, remember the cardinal rules of educational critique, say two nice things, one negative, and another nice).

I keep a number of the pieces refered to in the Ten Lines Found Gallery

Enjoy.
