The Missionary’s Incorrect Position . . . and, Taiwan is in the Grip of Satan

The Taipei Kid tells us about an article with The Missionary’s Incorrect Position . . . some kid came as a missionary and ended up coaching university wrestling. His take on Taiwan is completely screwed up but evidently the folks back home are eating it up. Yes, one semester spent going to movies and wrestling with kids whose language he doesn’t speak at all and he knows everything we need to know about Taiwan.

Before I came to Taiwan . . . back in 1989 . . . a “missionary” gave a talk at a local church about his experiences here . . . the title of his presentation was . . . “Taiwan is in the Grip of Satan” . . . he had video and photographic proof too . . . lots of photos of people at temples burning paper offerings to the gods which is obviously just another way to worship Satan . . . yeah, right . . . Satanism is completely irrellevant here . . . he also noted that his students as the university where he was stationed were all materialistic and lazy, indicative of all of Taiwan’s young people’s loss of any spiritual life and a that overall the entire population is just greedy and lazy . . . let me see . . . he was teaching at Providence which at the time was ultra low on the joint college entrance exam set so the kids going there were the wealthy ones who couldn’t get into the top schools . . . the school paid him fairly well and he was provided with a large house for his family, a car with a driver, and his kids had a car with a driver to take them to school at Taipei American School, a school which most Americans I know living here could not afford to send their own kids to . . . he made it sound like he was roughing it all in the name of Jesus . . . but after I got here, it was quite obvious he was living he very good life. Now, who’s mindlessly pursuing luxury and who exactly is in the grip of Satan?

Sometimes missionaries can be dumbasses . . . okay, more than sometimes.
