The Mind of Jimmy Swaggart

Way back in the days of yore . . . in the late ’80s when I was at university at a Christian university (yes, really) . . . my buddies and I used to get a kick out of watching Jimmy Swaggart on television as he was so predictable . . . his pitches and twirls are all down to clockwork to the point that he breaks down and cries, weeping with "genuine sadness" about this or that weakness or problem, begging for folks to send in money . . . clockwork . . . the guy’s tears just start flowin’ at the same time every show . . . well, my Swaggart watching days are behind me . . . after awhile it gets rather depressing as you keep hoping that folks will start seeing him for the blood sucking vulture that he must be but they don’t, they just send in more money . . . him and the other facist bullyboy conservative Christians . . . well, Jimmy has gone and put his foot in his mouth yet again . . . this time, now that we’re older, it isn’t as funny . . . more like pathetic:

In a broadcast this month, Swaggart was discussing his opposition to gay marriage when he said "I’ve never seen a man in my life I wanted to marry. And I’m going to be blunt and plain: If one ever looks at me like that, I’m going to kill him and tell God he died," Swaggart says, to laughter and applause from the congregation. He later apologized, saying the remark was meant to be humorous.

Yes, very helpful. The apology makes it all okay. This was not a slip of the tongue, it was an incitement. Let’s spread hatred and the idea that it’s okay to kill homosexuals. Can we say homophobia much?

Please don’t take this post the wrong way . . . I don’t have a problem with conservative Christians . . . I don’t have a problem with Christians in general . . . I have a problem with these facist bullyboys who pretend their hatred is all in the name of Jesus when it most certainly has nothing whatsoever to do with any reasonable interpretation of the creeds of their so-called religions. I don’t care what religion you are, spreading hatred and inolerance is just plain stupid . . . especially when there is just so much fucked up and hypocritical about your own public and private life.
