Is air guitar really an art form? Well, it has it’s own competitions and there are US Air Guitar Championships. Most folks are going here right now because of the clip from Conan O’Brien with the panty flash . . . but, I’m also interested in why oh why is this sport receiving the coverage it’s getting? Now, if these folks were hopping about and really playing real guitars, then I’d be impressed. Air guitar is an acting exercise, it’s for sense memory and creating the illusion of objects in space. When I watch so-called championship performances, I just notice how they’re fucking up and moving the object about. Folks, real guitars are not made of rubber, you can’t twist them and bounce them . . . if you’re going to play this game at least play it well.
