Susan Block on Bush’s POW Porn

Dr. Susan Block gives a run down on what she calls Bush’s POW Porn, discussing the recently released photographs of Iraqi prisoner abuse.

One flaw in her essay is simply that she’s overstepping . . . way over the line . . . there is no evidence, none whatsoever, that Bush gets some sort of sexual gratification out of seeing these images of abuse. She pretends to be analyzing the sexual character of the president when she is merely describing the acts portrayed in the photographs. These are not related issues.

Certainly, we can discuss the nature of power and the loss of fath in the mission in Iraq when viewing these degrading photos . . . but they have nothing to do with the sexual character of the man GW Bush.

She’s grasping at straws in order to have a go at the President and what he stands for. This is both irrelevant and futile. Besides . . . there is plenty of other Bush material one can discuss that is obvious and is factual rather than creating images of a sex-crazed madman masturbating to images of prisoner abuse.

In her critique, Block notes that she is an experienced therapist and that she knows that when Bush says he is disgusted by the photos he is in fact merely denying the truth. As an experienced therapist, she should know better. Sure, sometimes folks say their disgusted by something to hide the truth that it really rocks their boat but in many cases they say they are disgusted because they really are disgusted. As Block has no special access and she presents no evidence to the contrary beyond her speculation then she is behaving unprofessionally to say otherwise.

Sure, I am one of the folks who believes Bush is not the happy-happy-jesus-lovin’-joy-joy guy he likes folks to believe, there is certainly enough evidence of that in the public record . . . but to claim he is a sexual pervert orchestrating the photographs for his own twisted sexual amusement goes a bit more than well over the line.

Now, as a private citizen, I can say it is my opinion that Bush is a twisted fuck . . . but it must be clear that it is my opinion . . . Block has an opinion or Bush’s character, fine, she has the right to express that opinion . . . but she should not pretend that it is a diagnosis or a critical analysis with professional integrity. It is not.
