CHALLENGE
Hypnotists often use their words to ply their craft. What happens when we use a speech jammer to interfere with a hypnotist’s ability to speak? Brian David Phillips plays with a speechjammer app and issues the HYPNOTIC SPEECHJAMMER CHALLENGE to fellow hypnotists to perform a hypnotic induction while using a similar app.
Actually, I think I did pretty well. Some folks are able to get past the neuro-interference better than others and some just get floored. As my grandmother used to say, I don’t use my brain to speak much anyway. 😉

Honestly, you don’t have to post a reply video to play . . . just whip our your speechjammer and give it a go. You will need to play with the settings to find the best delay mark for most neuro-interference and then go with it. Everyone’s response is different. Have fun! Of course, if you do wish to play along, it’s so much more fun when you post that reply video.
The inspiration for the challenge aspect of this video was a clip by the guys at Simple Pickup who did street pickups to try to get girls’ phone numbers while using a speechjammer app. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2_yW-HPIQM for their fun clip. Since we used to do a lot of monthly hypno challenges at the Hypnosis Technique Exchange at https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/HypnosisTechniqueExchange, it seemed a no-brainer to see if folks would like to give it a go.

The original inspiration for playing with this app comes from watching Rhett & Link‘s episodes on Good Mythical Morning in their original video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnaOpWCJwXU and the very fun followup at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNHRsOdZ3ig.
They were responding to the news of the speechjammer gun winning an Ignoble Prize from Harvard’s annual award thingie.
Here’s a really fun one that provides a really well designed challenge set.
His challenge instructions for those with an interest and some links to working software.
Step 1: Download a speech jammer app. The can be found at the following links:

Step 2: Once you have the app, do the challenge! Here’s the list of things to do.
- Recall an embarrassing childhood memory.
- Talk about what’s your favorite TV show/movie and why.
- Read the following passage aloud: “I thought a thought. But the thought I thought wasn’t the thought I thought I thought. If the thought I thought I thought had been the thought I thought, I wouldn’t have thought it.”
Step 3: Tag three other people to do it!
