The Expectancy Induction is a classic approach to hypnotizing folks that is elegant and complex at the same time. It takes advantage of some of the fundamental principles of hypnosis that once you understand are essentially the key to any other hypnotic effect and a future of wonderful hypnotic success.
Essentially, the expectancy induction works the same way placebo does and is incorporates the cornerstone of hypnotic effectiveness . . . the intensification of the involvement of a trance partner’s imagination in the process and a solid expectation of the result.
Once you have a person’s consent and have their imagination focused on the outcome, you simply describe the process with expectancy clues, essentially telling them what will happen and what they should expect to experience as it happens.
As long as the imaginative involvement is appropriately intensified and expectancy raised, the trance partner should experience the steps as described . . . in part because you’ve told them that’s what they should expect.
Here’s a straightforward and simple variation of such an expectancy induction in action:
