3D Screens in Taiwan multiply big time for Avatar

Lorraine is off to Kaoshiung today to attend the film festival and do a lot of film marketing hobknobbing for her work.  She told me that she talked to the folks at Fox the other day and they told her that a LOT of theatres have installed digital 3D in anticipation of today's release of Avatar.

So, Taiwan has gone from less than a handful of digital 3D screens to well over one hundred as theatre owners scramble to install systems for Avatar.

Of course, this also means that we will likely see more 3D titles actually make it here and that they will see wider distribution.

In the past, there have been 3D films that did not come to Taiwan at all or those that came here in 2D but no 3D as the number of screens didn't warrant it . . . even though the intake for the 3D films here always out perform the 2D versions of the same titles.

So whatever you think of his films, James Cameron has managed to turbo jump start the 3D film in Taiwan.  Thank you, Mr. Cameron.

Of course, 2010 looks to be the year that 3D finally crosses over into the home consumer market as well.  A number of companies have consumer products ready to launch in 2010 for home use . . . computers, televisions, game consoles, cameras, and more.  A few products have launched in 2009 but the real wave is set to begin in 2010.

All the best,
Brian
