Evidently For Some Parents Shouting is the New Spanking (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/22/fashion/22yell.html). We're a positive discipline household and don't spank our child. I had my fill of the whole throw-'em-down-and-spank-'em culture as a child and so have chosen a different sort of relationship to have with my own child. Yelling though may seem better than spanking to some but it's simply emotional spanking and can even leave a longer negative imprint.
All the best,
Brian
