Wacky Hypnotic Bus Ride

One thing about performing standup comedy is that while you may know your routines (and many comics memorize every nuance of their delivery) you don't know how the audience will respond so you have to be ready to adjust to the audience reaction.  With comedy stage hypnosis, you not only have to be able to adapt to the audience reactions, you never know how a particular volunteer will react to a particular gag on any given night.  While I know of some hypnotists who have memorized every line and deliver their show the same way with the same pacing each and every night, the really good ones know they need to adapt to the volunteers, cutting things short, adding in new things, improvising off the reactions of their volunteers to create stronger performances overall.  It is important to emphasize to the audience how everyone's imagination is different and so responses are genuine but entertaining.

The wacky bus ride is a classic routine that many hypnotists use (although, lately I've seen more folks using airplane imagery instead of busses – I prefer busses as you are very unlikely to have a volunteer with a bus phobia while plenty of folks are afraid of flying and I do NOT want to make the volunteers unduly uncomfortable).

Here is a short video with part of the bus bit with the classic movie gag tagged in to enhance emotional responses as well as physical ones.

This video is clipped from the production footage from an appearance I shot for a special guest segment for an
episode on hypnosis of Michael Cheng's television
program. The video was taken at CTS studios in Taipei, Oct. 17, 2008.
For the show, they only needed a couple short shots, although I did perform a complete Short Sharp Shock
comedy hypnosis show (an brief style of performance with no music or
props, just jump in and go) with a couple volunteers and a very small
studio audience for taping purposes.  I really love the colorful set.
You can purchase a DVD copy of the program at http://www.briandavidphillips.net/store as well as other shows, training products, and audio programs.

Naturally, the folks who attend the WALKABOUT TRANCE BEACH RESORT GETAWAY http://www.walkabouttrance.com
on August 15-16 in Los Angeles are also going to get some tips on using
emotional and physical responses as induction setups (certainly, the
folks who attend the one day tag workshop we are seriously considering
offering there on August 17 in Engineering eXperiential Erotic Ecstasy as a direct followup workshop at that time are going to get both).

All the best,
Brian
