I spent the better part of Sunday testing out our new HD camera and shooting video for a program on techniques employing ideomotor effect (also one of my topics for the upcoming Global Hypnosis Summit which you really should be signed up for if you haven't signed up already). I did some muscle testing bits (psychophysiological mind reading) – those of you familiar with some of my walkabout trance strategies know the finger game. I also did some prepping for my upcoming comedy show on Seduction Mindtricks (see http://www.briandavidphillips.com for show details).
So, imagine my scintillating synchronicity surprise when Lorraine and I watched the new episode of The Mentalist together and lo and behold the episode ("Crimson Casanova") featured a professional PUA (pick-up artist) and included a scene in which Patrick Jayne (Simon Baker) realizes that a girl didn't want them to see something hidden in the room so he grabs her hand and does a Kreskinesque muscle reading bit that leads him to a digital camera with incriminating evidence on it.
I must say that I absolutely LOVE the show THE MENTALIST and am happy with each episode so far as they all have these throwaway little bits in which Jayne (a former "fake" psychic) performs a bit of NLP, hypnosis, or mentalismish magic as part of the show and the techniques they show are genuine techniques, not Hollywood made up crap based upon superstition or misconceptions. Of course, Jayne is very very very good at the stuff and so his skillset presentation makes it seem almost supernatural but it's still firmly planted in realistic presentation . . . at least so far. That is, so far, the show has not succumbed to Hollywoodisms and, so far, the effects and tricks and abilities Jayne has demonstrated all fall well within what is actually possible for a skilled practitioner of the various skillsets Jayne is purporting to use in the storyline.
The music video above is from a youtube thingie at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsgSQLfHzG8 for those who can't see it in their reader streams.
If you haven't caught the show, catch it.
Unfortunately, it's not available in my neck of the woods (no, the poster at the top of this post is not a local one) so I have to depend upon the kindness of strangers to get my fix but those of you who live in areas where it is readily available, see it.
All the best,
