Coronation Street’s Jason Grimshaw is set to ditch his macho image after a trip to a hypnotist. Jason, whose brother Todd became the hit show’s first gay character, turns to hypnosis to cure his fear of heights. But mischievous factory worker Sean persuades the hypnotist to give Jason some homosexual tendencies. As a result, builder Jason ends up blowing kisses at Sean and even running his fingers through his hair. According to the Daily Star newspaper, Ryan Thomas, who plays Jason, was shocked to hear that his character was being lined up for camp revamp. But Tina O’Brien, who plays teenage mum Sarah Louise Platt and dates Ryan in real life, thinks it’s a great idea. It’s already been conclusively proven that you can’t turn gay people straight with hypnosis (now, it’s understood that being gay is not a mental disorder anyway) . . . so, whey are these idiots trying to say you can turn a straight guy into gay in one session . . . sheesh. Yes, I know, it’s just bad television . . . but that’s part of the point, isn’t it? It’s bad TV, bad hypnosis, bad everything all around.
