Pretty much anything can be used as an instant induction once the formula is understood and the hypnotic contract has been created. Enhance the client’s imagination and create mental expectancy and off you go! Instant inductions can be created by [1] creating a rapid or unexpected movement of some part or all of the client’s body. This sets things up for the bypass of the critical factor by overloading the nervous system (I find that this works best if they are fixated/concentrating on an object, thought, or idea at the time as this serves as an interrupt); [2] firing in the trance suggestion, usually the word “Sleep” since time is of the essence, as the client’s energy level drops down and he drops into trance; and [3] following this immediately with deepening statements and assurances such as “I’ve got you. Let every muscle go loose, limp, and relaxed.” If the client is standing, make sure to start off with a waking suggestion that she will be able to remain standing while slipping into a wonderfully deep state of hypnosis. Following this formula, one could create an induction for just about anything.
For instance, assume I’ve set up the expectance and enhanced imagination by telling a subject (a child or even a playful adult) that I’m going to demonstrate a wonderfully powerful ancient technique taught to my by the Great Mysterio when I studied at his feet in the Secret Chambers of the Great Pyramid which I just made up [the Mysterio references are just to add dressing and confusion, for fun, with most folks one would not do that sort of thing, this is playful patter not to be taken seriously]. A technique which will allow me to guide her into a wonderful state in which she will find that she is able to experience a wonderful state of complete physical relaxation and peace of mind while maintaining the ability to stand easily and comfortably. She must stand before me, posture erect but comfortable with both feet together. She will be able to remain standing even though her entire body will go limp, loose, and relaxed. Now, she must stare deeply into my third eye (the space just between my eyes), she may feel herself drifting a bit but she must concentrate on that spot as she breathes in and out deeply. She must then place her left hand over my heart (only for folks you have touching relationships with) so that she can feel the energy and power building and rising between us. I then take her right hand in my right hand and place my left hand gently behind her (under the arm) supporting her back and begin the patter: “As you breathe in, feel the power of the force enter you, wafting between us. As you breathe out feel the power pushing you down down down. Each breath building and building, deeply relaxing, your eyes becoming heavier and heavier . . . and [just as she begins a deep breath exhale] . . . SLEEP!” I gently jerk her right hand down and towards me, often causing a spin of the torso but not always. My left arm is in place to catch her if she goes completely limp and I can maneuver her so that she is partially supported by my body. Once I’ve done the jerk, I can release the arm and send the left hand to her face to make certain the eyes are closed and gently rock the face as I fire in deepening suggestions, count to eye catalepsy, and perhaps fractionation (in this case, the fractionation suggestions would include feeling the Force or Chi or whatever as it’s a fun sort of setup). Obviously, the Mysterio stuff is just for fun and the straight variation can be done without the stage dressing.
