COURSE HOURS: three hours

PREREQUISITE: no experience necessary
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION: The FREE Tranceworkshops are taught in English. If there are sufficient folks who require it, limited Chinese interpretation can be made available but only if requests are made very early and it can be arranged. Those who require language assistance may choose to signup with an English-fluent friend who can assist them if they prefer. On Saturday, 18 April, Brian David Phillips will be conducting a three-hour introductory workshop on HYPNOTIC MAGICKAL FOCI. Learn approaches to energizing (anchoring) objects with state resources through simple trance methods – both by formal hypnosis inductions and through eyes-open waking suggestion – in Taipei.

For this session, we will be exploring hypnotic magickal foci techniques, specifically traditional and contemporary approaches to energizing (anchoring) objects with emotional state resources or the like . . . such as the classic “red pen self-hypnosis reinduction trigger” used by many hypnotists or the “color purple associated synthesia” technique I use or some object-specific anchoring methods or some rather fun techniques borrowed from traditional magick and reframed into focused trance or hypnotic context . . . so be sure to bring an object (ring, medallion, bracelet, cloak, pen, keys, crystal, whatever) and have a resource state or associated effect in mind for us to play with . . . a ring of public speaking confidence, a bracelet of protection, wand of wanton desire, earrings of good luck, marbles of mental harmony . . . whatever . . . the only limitation is your imagination . . . we’ll be energizing all sorts of objects with associated resource states. We’re going to have fun and learn and practice some interesting methods that can be adapted to many contexts from entertainment, recreation, education, therapy, and more. Come with an open mind, a playful spirit, and you’re guaranteed to get some really good stuff out of this session!
We will be playing with trancework, hypnotic or trance methods that simulate the concept of foci for trance magick. Here’s a bit more on more traditional view on foci.
A focus does not itself perform magic, and a practioner does not technically need a focus in order to work magic. A focus is a tool which helps a practioner control magical forces; it is essentially a crutch which makes it easier to perform a spell. Foci are commonly used to assist with evocation magic, because of its “quick and dirty” nature.
As you are just being introduced to the world of magick, your will is likely not yet strong enough to work outside the bounds of “foci”. Do not take this as an insult… even I, an experienced magickian, still use the same method to complete my magicks. A foci, or focus, is the tool that is used to concentrate your will upon . . . this tool does not have to be a physical item. It may be words, hand gestures, or even sex, if you are inclined to move in such a direction. Remember, the power of foci comes from will, intent, and belief within yourself.
This session is an introductory abbreviated variation of a section found in our lengthier course in Metaphysical Hypnosis which Rev. Dr. Brian David Phillips will teach participants a number of processes for directly accessing the power of the unconscious mind to create amazing imaginative effects employing genuine hypnosis techniques. A number of simple HYPNOTIC MAGICKAL FOCI procedures will be demonstrated. Join us as Dr. Phillips guides participants through a series of processes, and more. Bring your own talisman, wand, ring, staff, crystal, or what-have-you to energize. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! This free workshop is appropriate for beginners through advanced practitioners.

During the HYPNOTIC MAGICKAL FOCI workshop, Dr. Phillips will discuss the material, perform individual demonstrations of trance induction procedures as well as how to employ trance processes foci, will, and intention. Participants may be experienced or newcomers. All are welcome.
This is a hands-on workshop. Brian David Phillips (master hypnotist) will demonstrate the mental processes and then participants will practice with one another so come prepared to learn by doing, learn by creating, to be and to flow freely.

INSTRUCTOR:
The workshop is taught by Rev. Dr. Brian David Phillips, an internationally known and respected hypnosis practitioner, educator, author, and entertainer. Dr. Phillips is particularly well known within the hypnosis community for his innovative work in eroticatrance (erotic hypnosis), speed hypnosis, and creative hypnosis techniques. Dr. Phillips is President of the Society of Experiential Trance and editor of the peer-reviewed Journal of Experiential Trance. Dr. Phillips is the coordinator and chief instructor for the oldest English-language hypnosis and focused-trance practice group in Taiwan and is the owner and moderator of one of the largest online email discussion communities related to hypnosis and focused trance techniques. He has taught numerous workshops and seminars on hypnosis, focused trance, and experiential hypnosis in a variety of countries throughout the world as well as a number of webinars (web-based seminars) on these and related subjects. Dr. Phillips is an associate professor at National Chengchi University. Dr. Phillips uses rapid and instant hypnosis inductions routinely in his Waking Dreams Hypnosis Show, the only ongoing entertainment comedy hypnosis stage show in Taiwan.
TEACHING METHODS:
This workshop relies upon a very fast-paced system of demonstration and practice. More than any other course, this workshop consists of demonstration, explanation, practice, practice, practice. It is NOT intended as a lecture or passive learning experience. It is a very fast-paced and energetic program so students should come ready, willing, able, and eager to jump right in and run full speed ahead. The teaching methodology is very active. Students will learn through all of their sensory learning channels, particularly aural, visual, and kinesthetic . . . listening, seeing, and doing . . . as it is a practical applications competence course, there is a great deal of supervised “doing” with immediate and useful feedback. Typically, for each subject or technique, the training is within the following process model: 1. instructor briefs students on the topic, 2. instructor demonstrates technique with student volunteer, 3. the demonstration is then broken down into steps, 4. students then practice the technique several times with one another under guidance of the instructor with ongoing feedback, 5. class debriefs about experience and technique with performance notes from instructor, 6. students continue advanced practice (including homework for some techniques), 7. final debriefing with instructor. The course focuses upon competence and application of material.
The workshop is taught in English (we are happy to provide limited English to Chinese interpretation provided a sufficient number of folks register and request it, please contact Lorraine in a very timely manner for details).

Please Note, participants may NOT use recording devices during the seminar. However, as is typical, the instructor may record the training. Participation in this seminar is considered explicit consent to be recorded on video, audio, and photograph. You must participate, wallflowers need not register.While there is certainly nothing untoward in the workshop, those who wish to obscure their identity within the video, may wear a masquerade style mask (half, not full facial). See the image here for an example of acceptable style.
Videos are used for archival purposes as well as for possible training products. Participants wishing their own copies of any resulting video programs will be given the opportunity to purchase pre-release copies at a substantial savings from the retail price.
