Some very good points regarding the use of positive emotion states to more effectively learn language. Having a positive emotional state increases learning effectiveness. There are some good points here on how you can change negative emotional states through postural change and the like.
Worth the listen . . . even more worth the practice.
The video is specifically about using positive emotions to trigger more effective and faster learning of English but the principles apply to learning anything. He refers to Krashen’s work on language learning and positive affect but it’s worth noting Mugglestone’s “curiosity motive” as well as she found students whose imaginations are engaged through gameplay tend to learn more efficiently as well. The bits on shifting body posture or using grins related to research that shows taking on happy postures changes emotional states. Yes, if you act as if you are happy then eventually you may become happy . . . some Laughter Yoga approaches are built upon the same principles and recent neurological research has shown it has merit. Hmmm, my acting students might want to compare this to Stanislavski’s use of sense memory in performance as well.
Obviously, those of you who have learned neurolinguistic anchoring have a jump start. Flow can also help.
