A very effective way to ensure that someone will reliably re-enter hypnosis after the first session is to give them a Post-Hypnotic Suggestion for hypnotic reinduction, that is they will re-enter hypnosis, deeper and more reliably each time. This is usually tied to a trigger phrase or construct but – between you and me – once someone’s been hypnotized there actually isn’t a need for a formal trigger as they know how to re-enter the state and through practice tend to get better and better at it. The trigger is a short cut that smooths things along.
Also, another way to deepen someone’s state (that is to heighten their hypnotic responsiveness as depth is an illusion, a model we use to discuss heightened response) is Fractionation. That is, when someone is brought in and out of hypnosis within the same session in a sequence they tend to heighten their response. Fractionation is a solid hypnotic technique.
In this video, Brian David Phillips demonstrates the use of a Post-Hypnotic Suggestion to increase hypnotic responsiveness coupled with Fractionation – the reinduction of hypnosis several times in sequence to enhance hypnotic responsiveness and suggestibility.
